Trauma / PTSD

Once you have learned something it stays in your memory banks for life.  You cannot unlearn it.  So what happens when, at some point in your life, you had a really bad experience? It could have been abuse or bullying as a child or adult, witnessing a fatal accident or being involved in an environmental, war related or terrorist type trauma. Perhaps you witnessed the traumatic death or long-term illness of a loved one or you may have gone through serious illness or a health scare yourself?

The feelings and memories of these events all get stored. One out of five people will be unable to process what happened and be able to move on with their lives.  This could be how you feel.  Perhaps strange symptoms have started about the memory, even when the event may have taken place many years ago.

Do you feel jumpy and hyper vigilant or do you experience panic attacks, nightmares or flashbacks?  Sometimes you may not even realize why the slightest comment, sound, person, place or even smell can send you into a terrible range or make you feel terrified. Anxiety, depression and sleep problems will all follow no doubt.

There is great tool I use successfully with clients called ‘the rewind technique’ Please see the Further help section for a full explanation.  This technique uses a deeply relaxed state and guided imagery to prepare the way for a recount of the memory which, once played through, will become neutralized. It is perfectly safe and you are in complete control. Fresh Start Counselling, is centrally based in Brockham, between, Reigate, Dorking and Horley.
